If break is what you need - then take the break from the game.
On the PVP and other stuff:
Eve is a community game. When you PVP you should try and do it with your mates, in a gang, it is allot more fun that way.
You mention that you want to stay "safe" with implants, well such are the sacrafices, if you want to be safe - either stay in Empire or use JC.
On the other hand, from reading your post, I think you have taken a wrong turn when you trained your character. You mention the follwoing: "I'm the only one without all level 5 skills," and "my skills are all over the map." What happend to your specialisation? Would appear you wanted to be a Jack of all Trades and master of None? EVE is a game of specialisation.
Also, what about corpmates? I havent checked your employment history in game, but have you been in player corps? Have you gone out with the gangmates on mutual projects? Have you gone out with them on ratting sessions, on ganking sessions, on 0.0 Ops where you hunt the enemies and kill them together? Good corporations, and tightly knit groups do help each other out in EVE. Many Corporations and Alliances have some major players with allot of ISK who, at times, singlehandedly support "newer" players and players who hit the hard times. Also, any reasonable corporation would evaluate their new members and will try to pay them, and support them at first, if they feel they are deidcated to the game.
Your concenrs with Wrecks and Seamless Map - even if justified - are not really that major. Wrecks and the New Map are both fresh out of the coding, they will get improved with time, they will get streamlined and major issues will be fixed.
Single player has a tough time in EVE, it is important to find proper group of players to hang out with, otherwise you are in for the tough times, unless you absolutley love running missions.
Anyway, I am a Fan-boi, but I tired to sound reasonable, and no I do not wont your stuff, by the sound of it - anything you currently have I already have tenfold.
